Ahmed Aly was a student in Penn’s MD/PhD program, completing a Ph.D. in Bioengineering mentored by Paul Yushkevich and Robert Gorman, on image analysis and shape modeling for mitral valve surgery. Ahmed’s work produced methods for segmenting and modeling the mitral valve and left ventricle from 3D echocardiography in ischemic mitral regurgitation, including multi-atlas segmentation of the left ventricular mitral valve complex (STACOM 2019), 4D modeling of normal and regurgitant mitral valves (Experimental Mechanics, 2021), multimodal analysis of subvalvular dynamics (JTCVS Open, 2021), and fully automated modeling of the left ventricle and mitral valve (Medical Image Analysis, 2022). Ahmed’s more recent publications are from the Division of Cardiac Surgery at The Ohio State University.
